Marine Service Center, Hodge's Cove, NL
 

This marine service centre was constructed in early 90’s and it consists of:

  • Consists of an unpaved storage area capable of storing approximately 60 vessels;
  • A 70 ton capacity straddle crane; and
  • A 3800 sq. ft. office/storage building.

 

The operation is designed to provide a variety of services to all types of marine related activity, however, additional users can be considered to broaden and diversify its marine related base.

 

Boat Storage Area

This area measures 130 m x 107 m (13,910 sq. m) and its surface is class A compacted gravel.  The boat storage area is totally enclosed by a 1.8 metre high chainlink fence and there are 17, 110 volt electrical outlets located around the site perimeter.  This area is considered to have a capacity to store approximately 60 boats.

 

Haulout Basin

The haulout basis is located on the northern end of the site.  It measures 20.75 m in length, 6.4 m in width and has a water depth of 4.4 m.  The two finger piers are constructed with creosote timber cribs and they are a concrete deck.  The water depth at the basin approach is 5.2 m.

 

Equipment

The site is equipped with a 70 tonne capacity marine straddle crane capable of lifting/launching vessels and transporting them around the storage area.  It is made by Marine Travelift Inc. and has the following characteristics:

The site is also equipped with an external fire fighting system.  This system is comprised of a wet well supplied with salt water by gravity feed, a submersible pump, and 3 hydrants located around the site.  It is activated manually with a switch on an external electrical panel above the wet well.

 

Building

This is a two story building of wood frame construction, measuring 18 m x 10 m (total floor area of 360 sq. m).  It contains an office, lunch room, stockrooms, a work area, and washrooms.  It is serviced with 120/240 volt, 400 amp, 3-phase power, has fresh water supplied from a deep well system, and has a septic tank sewage system.
