Tonnage measurements are required for registering a vessel with Transport Canada. All commercial fishing vessels exceeding 15 gross tonnes are required to be measured for tonnage and registered with Transport Canada. |

The vessel's underdeck and above deck enclosed volumes are measured as well as its primary dimensions. This information is converted to tonnage and a variety of required forms are completed with drawings and photos and submitted to Transport Canada.
